The Jungle

There are some paintings that offer breakthroughs, watershed moments in one's artistic development. This is one of those paintings. I made this painting after returning to the studio from a two-month residency in the jungles of the Peruvian Amazon. There's a lot to say about that trip, but what I can say here is that the immersion I made into that jungle made its way into my work. This is an immersive painting spanning approximately 6 by 9 feet. It calls you in and makes you aware of your own body. It is thick with paint like the jungle is thick with hot, wet air.
