Artist Statement
Jono Wright, born in 1978 in Boulder, Colorado, is a contemporary painter currently based in Denver. He is recognized for his large scale paintings that function as personal narratives, integrating figures with elements of the natural world.
Wright employs a sensitive and tactile approach to his oil paintings, creating immersive scenes that evoke a sense of spiritual ecstasy realized through surrender. Natural forms such as branches, leaves and flowers combined with figures are essential components of his compositions, blending elements of classical figure painting with influences from Jungian psychology, Abstract Expressionism and contemporary life.
His technique involves a sustained process of improvisation, layering forms in response to underlying passages of imagery, resulting in significant alterations or improvisational outcomes.
